Add your site to local search engines

Scores of local search engines are clamoring for a piece of the local search pie, and that means they want your listings. Whether you're a global, national, or local company, these incredibly simple SEO tips will overwhelm you with traffic to your website.

The first thing to know is you want to start off at Google Places. After posting your site on Google Places, try a list of local search engines and directories, which you can find simply by googling "list of local search engines," for more.

Fix your meta title tags

What are meta title tags? A web page's title meta tag is what you can see in your web browser's title bar when you are looking at a web page. So, right now, have a look toward the very top of the browser window and you will see the title meta tag. Within the HTML of a web page, the title for the current web page is located between two tags. If you manage your site, you won't have any trouble finding those tags. In the event that someone else controls your website, you should gather a list of adjustments and have them completed by him or her.

You should make sure the keyphrases that you're trying to rank for on some one single web page on your site is what you put between the title tags In case you aren't targeting just some keywords on each page in your website, you should make adjustments to do that.

If you attempt to optimize for more than a couple key terms on any one page, you'll end up finding you can't rank for any one of them.

You should also move important keywords to the beginning section of the title tag if possible.

The search engines place more emphasis on keywords appearing closer to the beginning of a title when computing your rank. And this leads us to our next tip...

Move important terms closer to the beginning of article titles

The same rules applies to article titles, as opposed, say to meta title tags. The search engines will consider keywords appearing toward the beginning of a title to be more important and relevant than those appearing toward the end of a title - the same goes for subheadings within an article.

If you're blogging on WordPress, then in most cases, your article titles will be placed to the meta title tags. If you write using another system, you can very easily alter any article titles to something a bit more search engine friendly.

Adjust your keyword density

Keyword density means the ratio between the total number of times a particular keyword appears on a web page and the total number of words on that page. Don't go overboard with this and stuff as many occurrences of a keyword into your pages as possible, as that would be keyword stuffing and can negatively affect your rankings, but you also don't want to under do it or else the engines won't be able to accurately determine the topic of your page.

The best way to go about adjusting keyword densities is to run a Google search query for a keyword you'd like to improve your rank for and check the keyword densities on the top ranking webpages for that term. Then, use those numbers as guide and adjust your keyword densities to more closely match those of the top ranked sites. But always keep in mind that your website exists for humans, so while you may rank higher with a given keyword density, if that results in the text being difficult to read, your site won't covert visitors into customers very well.

So those are the four simple steps that you can follow to improve your website SEO.

You should have no problem completing the majority of these tasks within a day or so, depending on the size of your website, and the results you'll achieve will be well worth it.
